I'm taking a little break from packing to update the blog and rip some books on CD to my iPod for the road trip ahead of us. I've got some Ellen Degeneres, Augusten Burroughs, DaVinci Code, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and best of Fresh Air comedian interviews. Light mellow stuff- nothing too heavy or frightening. Don't want to get depressed while we're driving through Nebraska or scared while we're sleeping in tents!
The past few days Monica has been helping me clean the house. I cannot thank her enough for all the hard work she's done around here. Our landlord Roland is sure to give us our deposit back after he sees how pristine our apartment is. Monica is a magical cleaning fairy.
Pretty much everything is in boxes save for our clothes and a few kitchen items. As I look around our flat, I feel a pang of sadness. We've had some really good times in this place and I'll really miss our little SoBra neighborhood. I may be a California girl but I'll always be a Wisconsin girl in my heart.
Tonight we're meeting Amanda, Chris D., and Jake for dinner. Maybe we'll have a classic Milwaukee fish fry? After that we're meeting some friends for some see-you-laters at a bar. The last time we'll be in a smokey bar for quite awhile. California is delightfully smoke free so you can go out for a drink and don't have to come home smelling like cancer sticks. Yes!
Tomorrow my Dad is coming for lunch. Yesterday I saw my sister Jessica for lunch. Gotta cram as much family time in as possible before we go. Family is what is going to be what we'll miss most while we're out in California. Though we'll be far away geographically, our hearts and spirits will always be with our family no matter what ALWAYS and FOREVER.
